Beasts of The Vale | Design Document
Beasts of the Vale is a work in progress project that I started while in college. The main focus of this design document was to design a turn based RPG style battle system and then be able to prototype that system within UE4. My goal was to go from developing a concept on paper and then transfer that to a working prototype from which I could make adjustments to the gameplay after playtesting. For that reason I took this as an opportunity to learn how to make my programming more flexible so that I could easily make adjustments with limited changes to the programming itself. The prototype itself presented a unique challenge is that there is very little information about making turn based systems in Unreal Engine, therefore I ended up having to figure out much of the programming through a lot of trial and error. It all ended up being a very useful exercise.
